# ssh into remote server and:
mkdir .ssh
cat id_rsa.pub >> .ssh/authorized_keys; rm id_rsa.pub
# adjust permissions if necessary
chmod go-w ~; chmod 700 ~/.ssh; chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
