At Kalamuna we use view modes whenever possible when working with layout builder. Here are a couple of standard guidelines that we use during the setup. We try to limit use of fields and instead combine fields into view modes that can be used later and placed within layout builder sections using CTools module and entity display blocks. Avoid placing fields when possible. Enable Layout Builder only on the content types and view modes where it’s needed. Allow override of individual layouts on marketing content types such as Basic Pages and Landing Pages.
